Field Trips
Mt Higgens Trip 2010
Mt Higgens Trip 2010
Field trips are scheduled on a regular basis throughout the year, including bus trips to local shows, museums, and special exhibits.

Our WAGONMASTER also schedules trips to collecting sites within driving distance of Bellingham. Interested club members meet at a designated location and carpool to the collection site.  Many of these sites are open on an "appointment only"  basis, so this is a fantastic resource for our members.

Be sure to use the drop-down menu to see pictures of some of our trips!

Upcoming Wagonmaster Field Trip Camp Out
Saturday, September 11th - 12th, 2010
Little Naches area for agate and crystal filled thunder-eggs and geodes. Meet at Kaner Flat Campground at
10am Saturday. Come prepared with digging tools, light hard rock tools and buckets or packs to carry out your finds! Generally a rock hammer, pick-hoe and a small shovel suffice. There is a short hike in to the dig site so only bring what you can carry, and collect what you can pack out! Lots of camping is available in the area. Due to the distance and travel time required, we intend to make a weekend out of it and can be found at Kaner Flat Campground. Hope you will join us in the hunt for the biggest Thunderegg!

Field Trip Report
- July 17th, 2010,
Lake Wenatchee
area for garnets, actinolite specimens, and soapstone

The July camp-out at Lake Wenatchee area was great. Despite the bugs and large quantity of bug spray required we still managed to brave the higher than normal, chilly water of Lake Creek and leave with many many excellent Garnets specimens. Some nearly 1/2 an inch! We collected beautiful samples from a pegmatite dike, collected some soapstone for carving and even found some actinolite specimens! We camped out under clear starry skies, cooked over the camp fire and just enjoyed each others company!

October 2nd-3rd, Camp out, Saddle Mountain for petrified wood
November 13th, Blanchard Mountain for Stilpnomelane in blue/green chert and milky white quartz
